In this position, the inserting partner has an unobstructed view of the receiving partner's sexual parts from the rear, with free hands and arms, which allows the inserting partner to stimulate the receiving partner's genitals, nipples, or anus, including spanking. For some women, penetration in this position provides the best stimulation of the G-Spot, but only minimal stimulation of the clitoris by the action of the penis, but can be counteracted by the testicles hitting the clitoris in the back-and-forth thrusting movements of doggy-style.

The position is generally considered less intimate because eye contact and kissing are more difficult. Significant differences in the leg length of the two participants may make copulation difficult. Also, because of the depth or angle of penetration, this position may cause pain during sex.
